FAQs for Students
There are 2 ways to receive credit for National High School courses.
- If you are already enrolled in a traditional school, your school (who has already authorized you to take the course) can grant credit for taking the course, using the information that we provide on the end of semester grade report.
- You can also ask for an official transcript from NHS to be sent to your school as transfer credit. Because NHS is a SACS accredited school, there should be no problem transferring your credits to any school within the United States.
50% of the students enrolled at National High School reside in over 90 Countries. NHS is internationally and Regionally Accredited, therefore, international students looking to enroll in an accredited U.S College or University, must have a High School diploma from an accredited U.S. High School.
International students who have already received a high school diploma or its equivalent must successfully complete the following classes that are specific to an American diploma, in order to obtain an American High School diploma. This assumes that students have already completed 4 years each of Science, Mathematics, and their native language; as well as World Geography and World History. A copy of their high school transcript must also be on file with NHS.
Students who have completed Health and/or Economics as part of their original high school diploma are exempted from those courses, but must still complete a total of 6.0 Carnegie units from National High School in order to earn a diploma. Additional credit can be made up by completing an elective course of their choice.
Each course is created with approximately 18 lessons during each semester. This allows you an entire week to finish each assignment and should only take an average student 5-6 hours of time per week.
The time is spent doing textbook or online readings, completing interactive activities, responding to a discussion topic, and completing the assessment. Some students, who are disciplined and self-motivated, have been able to complete each lesson in just a couple of hours.
Once a lesson is completed, you may move on to
the next lesson and complete the course as fast as you’d like. If you need more time for special circumstances, it is also possible to receive an extension past the normal 18 weeks per semester.
Students should also have the appropriate study environment, technology, internet connection, and an email address in order to successfully complete the course.
All core courses:
(English, Math, Science, Social Sciences, Foreign Languages and Health) have digital textbooks that are included in the enrollment fee for your course. User names and passwords will be issued to students as soon as the registration process is complete so they can access the online material.
Advanced Placement courses and Career/Tech courses & Foreign Languages:
require a hard copy book, as they are usually not available in digital format. Books can be ordered directly through the publisher or through Amazon.com by using the information provided in the syllabus.

Most questions (true/false, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, matching) are computer graded, although short answer and essay questions need to be reviewed by the instructor before a complete grade for the exam can be given.
